A peer worker provides one on one support to people who have experienced similar things in life to them. This support can include advice and guidance, emotional support, help with day to day life, referrals to other services, or practical help like completing a job application. In the criminal justice system, for example, a peer worker may have been in prison or involved in crime, and will give advice on rehabilitation and avoiding reoffending. They might also liaise with prisons and probation officers and write letters of support.
